Distributed Infrastructure

Distributed infrastructure architecture is the way IT organizations ensure applications are always deployed to the architecture that will provide the best performance. In fact, modern infrastructure tools such as containers and APIs have opened up many new architecture possibilities. This even includes spanning applications over on-premises data centers, public cloud, and edge locations. However, this amount of infrastructure flexibility introduces new IT management challenges.

One of the big challenges to distributed infrastructure is management. If the architecture is distributed, the management must be local and site-specific. Additionally, distributed infrastructure management should be unified and centrally visible. Unfortunately, many current management platforms still treat sites as fragmented silos.

Digital Rebar: Unified, Adaptable, Decentralized

If Infrastructure as Code is an assembly line for technology delivery, it’s important to use a tool that is able span your entire IT estate. RackN Digital Rebar was built to be decentralized yet adaptable. This allows it able to manage every part your unique IT infrastructure.

Digital Rebar is self-contained software that runs entirely inside your network. It has an extensible architecture that pulls reusable modules from the Digital Rebar IaC catalog. This allows API-integrations & user-extendable workflows to be plugged in to orchestrate multi-vendor infrastructure. This allows you to manage a distributed infrastructure similar to the ones the public cloud providers have been running for years.

How Does It Work?

A distributed management system connects multiple Digital Rebar sites in a federated way.  These sites can be on-premises datacenters, edge locations, or even in a public cloud. Each site retains autonomous control over it’s resources. At the same time, each site provides multiple single-pane-of-class management mirrors. These mirrors receive updates and delegate requests.

RackN Managers provide a way to view your entire IT estate. Additionally, they ensure that distributed sites synchronize Infrastructure as Code components based on specialized content catalogs.

RackN changed the rules by applying distributed computing concepts to infrastructure. As a result, you don’t have to surrender control or force conformity to consolidate management.

Distributed Infrastructure Features

Synchronized Automation

Digital Rebar Managers use versioned IaC catalogs, ensuring provisioning automation is consistent across your entire IT estate.

Consolidated Views

Consolidate autonomous site data into global and regional vies to build a single IT estate, even if you have multi-vendor and multi-cloud infrastructures.

Federated Control

Direct API-driven actions across your entire infrastructure using multiple Managers.

True Multi-Site

Provisioning abstractions create vendor independence.
